Workshop Description

A concise overview (150–300 words) summarizing the aims, relevance, and content of the workshop. This section will be published in the program and website.

More than half of the world population now live in urban areas. The development of sustainable cities plays a key role in the achievement of specific SDGs, such as Sustainable Cities & Communities and Good Health & Well-being). High-resolution data collected in a cost-effective way is needed to support the development of smart cities or digital twins, which facilitates the development of sustainable cities in the era of data science. Geo-Digitalization allows us to map urban environments cost-effectively by exploiting remote sensing imageries, historical paper maps or georeferenced documents (text). This workshop will focus on the emerging methods and techniques of Geo-Digitalization in urban applications, including transport, planning & design, health & wellbeing and so forth.

In particular, the incorporation of AI into Geo-Digitalization is highly welcome. Furthermore, the advantages and limitations of Geo-Digitalization methods and techniques will be discussed to better understand the contribution of Geo-Digitalization to the development of sustainable cities..
