Our inaugural Tech Expo on March 7th, 2024, marked a historic milestone for KCA University. Spearheaded by the School of Technology in collaboration with the Division of Research, Innovation and Outreach (RIO), the event brought together industry leaders and aspiring tech talent for a dynamic exploration of the latest trends and breakthroughs in technology.
Industry leader Judy Kimani, Director of Partnerships Digital Transformation at Britam, represented CEO Tom Gitogo and expressed enthusiastic support for future partnerships and sponsorship of student innovations.
DVC Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Joshua Bagaka assured attendees of the university’s commitment to staying ahead of technological change, emphasizing our proactive approach to engaging students. Prof. Vincent Onywera, DVC Research, Innovation and Outreach, highlighted the expo’s role as a “melting pot for technology enthusiasts” facilitating vibrant exchange of ideas.
“Next Technology Horizons: Building Skills for Sustainable Development”
Our second edition, held on March 6-7, 2025, through the Directorate of Innovation, Incubation and Enterprise Development (DIIED), expanded the expo into a comprehensive week-long experience bringing together students, faculty, industry professionals, and policymakers.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaiah I.C. Wakindiki reaffirmed the university’s strategic direction towards technology-driven education, emphasizing the importance of industry partnerships and innovation. Keynote speaker Mr. Caleb Nyoiro, Site Director at Zone01 Kisumu, challenged students to think beyond today’s problems and design tech solutions that shape the future.
Pre-Expo Activities:
• Upskilling Workshops: Sessions facilitated by experts from Innovate Leadership Academy, KESAP Research Centre, and Odoo ERP focusing on digital tools, research methods, and business systems.
• Panel Discussions: Representatives from IBM, Silicon Overdrive, ICT Authority, Kilimanjaro Blind Trust Africa, KESAP, and Odoo ERP shared insights on real-world tech challenges.
• Industry Field Visits: Over 30 students visited Britam Innovation Lab (BetaLab), IBM Research Lab, and Microsoft East Africa.
